On the evening of March 4, 2013, Mr. Liu Yi, General Manager of Dongguan Zhengda Tongde Bearing Co., Ltd., was invited by the Human Resources Department to hold a special seminar titled “Innovation, Value, and Lifecycle Management” in the conference room on the third floor of Foshan Zhengda Mechanical & Electrical Components Co., Ltd. Representatives from the supporting systems department—including sales representatives, business managers, and general business managers—attended the meeting. Most of the supporting company’s sales staff primarily focus on OEM customer sales; however, this time, General Manager Liu introduced the concept of “post-marketing.” The so-called “post-market” refers to the end-user market. Although everyone is somewhat familiar with this concept, it also feels quite unfamiliar at the same time.

Most sales representatives at our partner companies primarily focus on selling to OEM customers. However, this time, General Manager Liu is introducing you to “post-market marketing.” The so-called “post-market” refers to the end-user market. When it comes to the post-market, everyone is both familiar with the concept and yet feels somewhat unfamiliar with it. We’re familiar with it because we often talk about it in our daily work; yet we feel unfamiliar because we rarely actually put it into practice or come into direct contact with it.
First, we introduced the characteristics of the aftermarket, and then extended the discussion to concepts such as business model innovation, innovation in specialized capabilities, and the value of customer needs. The explanation of aftermarket information was truly refreshing and engaging—everyone listened with great enthusiasm. Even more memorable were the real-world case studies that were presented.
Through this learning session, everyone has benefited greatly. Rather than simply being a symposium, it was more like a collision between new ways of thinking and traditional sales approaches. We’re confident that we can put what we’ve learned into practice—applying post-market management methods even to our OEM clients—to boost sales performance and profitability.
