Zhengda Machinery & Electronics’ Second “2021 Outstanding Employee” Interview Series

Following the release of the first installment of our 2021 Outstanding Employee Interview Series, the company also organized a corresponding live sharing and exchange event. The insights shared by our outstanding employees sparked an enthusiastic response from colleagues. Today, we’re pleased to bring you the second installment of these interviews.

Liu Wenjiao: There’s a kind of persistence called “taking root.”

    — An Exclusive Interview with Liu Wenjiao, “Outstanding Employee” of 2021, from the Finance Department

(Lingyi Industrial Finance Department – Liu Wenjiao)

Liu Wenjiao, who joined Charoen Pokphand in September 2019, was born in Yueyang City, Hunan Province. She came to Foshan in 2015 and began her journey of pursuing her dreams there, determined to build a successful career. Below is an interview conducted by reporter Li Huining with her:

Li Huining: As a native Hunan girl, why did I choose to pursue my career in Foshan?
Liu Wenjiao: I came to Foshan in 2015, and it’s been seven years now. Actually, I chose Foshan back then because I felt its pace of life was relatively slower, and I’d heard that the general happiness index here was quite high. Plus, my spouse was already living here, so I decided to join them and start building a life here.

Li Huining: What kind of opportunity initially brought you to our company, and what aspects of our company ultimately led you to choose Zhengda?
Liu Wenjiao: After leaving my previous company, I was looking for a better and larger platform for career development. I happened to see on a job-search website that the company was precisely recruiting for talent in my field, so I submitted my resume. At the time, I received offers from several companies, but based on the company’s size and its culture of continuous learning, I ultimately made the decisive choice to join Charoen Pokphand Group.

Li Huining: I’ve been with the company for two and a half years now. Have there been any experiences that left a deep impression on you or were particularly memorable? Or have you ever faced significant challenges, and if so, how did you overcome them? Could you share more about that?
Liu Wenjiao: The most memorable experience, I think, was last July, when, due to work requirements, I was transferred from the accounts receivable position in finance to the general ledger position, taking charge of managing the entire financial accounting team. For me, who had always been responsible for handling accounts receivable, this transition—especially since several new colleagues had just joined the accounting team—was essentially a situation where newcomers were training newcomers. It was quite a significant challenge. Every day, I found myself in an extremely busy and highly stressful state. Yet, precisely because of this opportunity, I got to explore many new areas and acquire fresh knowledge. From being a finance professional whose sole focus was on completing my own tasks, I’ve now become a leader who not only carries out my own responsibilities but also guides and manages the entire team to achieve our goals. Fortunately, thanks to the guidance of my supervisors and everyone’s continuous efforts, we managed to navigate the transition period relatively smoothly. For me, this marked a real breakthrough and has filled me with even greater confidence as I look ahead to my future work.

Li Huining: 2021 was an exceptionally meaningful year for you—not only were you named Employee of the Year, but you also successfully advanced to a managerial position and even became a shareholder in the company. It truly marked a highlight moment in your life. Could you share your thoughts on this?
Liu Wenjiao: Indeed, 2021 was a breakthrough year for me. The “369” culture of our company has been an invaluable source of inspiration and a guiding principle that has continuously motivated me both at work and in my personal life. If I were to share my thoughts, I’d like to highlight one of the Six Principles of Spiritual Cultivation—gratitude. I’m deeply grateful for the platform our company provides: as it has grown and flourished, it has also offered us countless opportunities for learning and self-improvement, allowing us to grow and progress alongside the company. I’m also immensely thankful to all our leaders and colleagues—without their patient guidance and the seamless collaboration among team members, many tasks would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible, to complete successfully. I’d also like to express my heartfelt appreciation for my own hard work and perseverance. Finally, I’m grateful for everyone’s recognition and encouragement of my efforts. This is just the starting point of our journey; going forward, I’ll use this gratitude as a driving force and motivation to keep pushing ahead, continuing to lead our small team and empower our business!

Editor's Note: “Every outstanding person has gone through a period of silent dedication—times when they’ve put in tremendous effort yet reaped no visible results. We call this phase ‘putting down roots.’” Bamboo took four years to grow only three centimeters—but starting from the fifth year, it began to shoot up at an astonishing rate of 30 centimeters per day. In just six weeks, it soared to a height of 15 meters. In fact, during those first four years, bamboo had already spread its roots extensively throughout hundreds of square meters of soil. The same holds true for how we live and work: Just like Liu Wenjiao in her career, don’t worry if your current efforts don’t seem to be paying off right now. These efforts are all about putting down roots. Life requires us to build up reserves, to hone our skills, and to prepare ourselves. If you want to reap rewards, you must persevere! Always believe firmly that the harder you work, the luckier you’ll become! Someday, your moment of glory will surely come!

    Be down-to-earth and overcome difficulties.

    — An Exclusive Interview with Liu Xiaoying, “Outstanding Employee” of 2021 from Chengdu Nengda

(Chengdu Nengda Warehouse Manager – Liu Xiaoying)

Liu Xiaoying, originally from Dujiangyan in Chengdu, has been working at Nengda in Chengdu for over two years. Before joining the company, she had never encountered a good opportunity to work as a warehouse manager. Thanks to an internal recommendation, she was able to join Nengda and finally land her dream job as a warehouse manager.

From “Complete Beginner” to “Quickly Getting Started”

Since she had no prior experience in warehouse management, Liu Xiaoying was still unfamiliar with the company’s workflows and products when she first joined. She also faced pressure from the expectation of quickly getting up to speed. Nevertheless, she remained confident in herself and determined to stick with it, gradually familiarizing herself with the products. Whenever she encountered something she didn’t understand, she wasn’t afraid to ask for help from others. Eventually, within just half a year, she had mastered all the products thoroughly. Speaking about this period, she said, “I’m really grateful to Zhang Run! When I first started, the automation warehouse and the motor warehouse were located in separate places, and I was the only one working in the automation warehouse at the time—there weren’t any warehouse colleagues around to directly guide me. I clearly remember that during the two-plus weeks from my start date on July 11th until the end of the month, it was she who took me under her wing, teaching me how to use the computer software, helping me get familiar with different product models, and showing me how to handle shipping and placing orders. By August, I was already able to carry out my work independently.”

About those experiences in the warehouse

Over the past few years at the company, Liu Xiaoying has been most profoundly influenced by her experience working in the first two warehouses.

At the beginning of her employment, the first warehouse was a ground-floor apartment rented within the residential community, making it vulnerable to influences from two directions. On the one hand, due to its relatively limited space, larger items were difficult to move around. On the other hand, affected by the pandemic, delivery trucks could only park at the entrance of the community and were not allowed to enter. In such cases, Liu Xiaoying had to carry carts over herself to transport the goods, often making multiple round trips throughout the day.

About a year later, the warehouse moved to its second location. Compared to the previous site, this new location offered much more spacious facilities. However, as the company’s business performance grew, the overall workload at the warehouse also increased significantly. Yet, when it came to loading and unloading goods, employees still had to bring their own carts to the entrance to pick up and deliver shipments. Liu Xiaoying went on to add, “During that period, I’d get quite stressed whenever I saw ‘large items’ secured in wooden crates—because these crates had to be disassembled using a hammer and chisel before they could be stored, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. And I was especially worried about handling motors weighing up to 100 kilograms—since we didn’t have a forklift yet, we’d just have to ask others to help us lift them together.”

Faced with work pressure stemming from multiple factors, Liu Xiaoying found herself increasingly anxious when handling warehouse goods. During inventory checks—especially during peak busy periods—it became difficult to carefully verify each item one by one. At that time, the system didn't yet have a function to detect and flag errors, and there were even instances where individual products got mixed up. She concluded, “You still need to double-check meticulously. Since the workload is heavy, just take a bit more time to get it right.”

Liu Xiaoying strictly adheres to the inbound, outbound, and shipping procedures. With her conscientious and responsible attitude toward her work, she has made a very strong impression on her superiors. Since starting her job, she has hardly ever made any human errors, truly demonstrating her dedication to the company’s interests. She also regularly meets with leaders from the logistics company to point out issues related to timeliness and damage that arise during transportation, and offers constructive suggestions for improvement—proactively seeking solutions to enhance customer satisfaction.

    A new beginning

Speaking of the new warehouse today, Liu Xiaoying couldn't hide her excitement as she described it: “Now, the automated warehouse and the motorized equipment are all integrated in one place, and all the various problems we used to face have been effortlessly resolved. In terms of goods entering and leaving the warehouse, on the one hand, there’s no longer any obstruction at the entrance; on the other hand, when handling heavy items, my colleagues responsible for the motors can use forklifts to lend a hand. As for inventory counting, the current scanning system is highly intelligent—it can automatically flag errors, making my work both efficient and accurate, and significantly reducing my worries.”

Regarding being named an outstanding employee, Liu Xiaoying said, “I’m deeply touched! Actually, the company and my supervisors have always been paying attention to all my hard work. General Yi Jian often comes to the warehouse to check on us and see if there’s anything we need help with.”

Speaking about her future plans, she said, “Right now, my colleague Xiaohong and I are jointly responsible for automation tasks, and things are much better than before. As the company continues to grow faster in the future, we’ll need to step up our efforts and become increasingly meticulous—especially when it comes to inventory counts and inbound and outbound logistics.”

Editor's Note: Mr. Wang Yijian, General Manager of Chengdu Nengda, has witnessed her steady growth since she joined the company. In Mr. Yijian’s view, Liu Xiaoying, with her diligent attitude and eagerness to learn and seek advice, was able to handle her work independently within just about half a year after joining the company—clearly demonstrating that diligence can make up for lack of innate talent. Employees with strong personal qualities, given the right platform, opportunities, and support, will inevitably achieve success sooner or later. Liu Xiaoying has established herself firmly in her role through hard work and dedication, showcasing outstanding personal qualities and excellent professional habits—qualities that are truly worthy of our careful study and emulation.

No matter what the past has been, prove your capabilities through action! Under limited conditions, overcome all obstacles and ensure that every mission is accomplished! Now, in the new warehouse, Liu Xiaoying has not only achieved breakthroughs in work efficiency but has also embarked on her very first journey of mentoring newcomers.

Whether it’s Liu Wenjiao’s “perseverance and courage to reach new heights” or Liu Xiaoying’s “facing challenges head-on and becoming ever more courageous in the face of setbacks,” both embody the company’s corporate culture spirit of “courage and positive energy.” This corporate culture spirit should also take root deep within each and every one of us employees. May we all strive together and encourage one another!

The second installment of our exclusive interview has come to an end—let’s look forward to even more exciting insights in the next issue!
