My Seven-and-a-Half Years with “Her”—Liu Junxiao, Zhengyi Automation
What people often refer to as the “seven-year itch” seems to mark a turning point in every relationship: at this particular juncture, emotions tend to shift, conflicts intensify, and the relationship between the two parties starts heading in an unfavorable direction. Yet, standing back and looking over the years since I joined Zhengyi Automation in July 2015, every single moment has left such a deep impression on me—still evoking a sense of “the story’s not over yet, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.” It almost feels like from now on is precisely the new starting point for my relationship with “her”! And all of this began with the very first encounter that brought me together with Zhengyi Automation...
I. Last night, the west wind withered the green trees; alone, I climbed high to the tower, gazing endlessly toward the horizon—just starting out in my career, taking on the role of new-product manager.
New to the workplace
It’s precisely because of those unforgettable experiences from my first year in the workforce that I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the saying, “Good horses are common, but true masters who recognize their talent are rare.” This year, in particular, I’ve been fortunate enough to serve as an interviewer for the group’s recruitment process. When designing interview questions, I make sure to include some that encourage candidates to think more deeply and gain a better grasp of the concepts of “industrial automation” and the role of a sales engineer. Perhaps some recent graduates already harbor a strong, subconscious interest in sales and industrial automation. As the group’s sales department—which is tasked with hiring—should not only devote extra effort but also possess greater capability to identify such candidates, I’m even more eager to become one of those “masters who recognize talent.”

As a newcomer to the workforce, I’m especially grateful to those who have provided me with so much guidance and support—General Peng, General Hu, Brother Deyi, and every single member of Zhengyi Group. Your warm-hearted assistance and the harmonious atmosphere throughout the company give me even greater motivation to keep moving forward, and I’ll be sure to pass this positive energy on to every new colleague who joins us in the future. Although professional learning can sometimes feel tedious, it’s an essential part of being a sales engineer. To this day, I continually emphasize the importance of expertise to every new hire—especially given today’s fiercely competitive market. Our value lies more than ever in our deep understanding of customers’ products and equipment processes, as well as in our ability to offer customers more professional advice and guidance.

Within the group, there’s also plenty of communication and interaction among different departments—such as regular basketball games, hikes in Danxia Mountain, and departmental dinner gatherings—allowing every new employee to truly experience that sales isn’t just about work; it’s also full of activities that they can actively participate in and enjoy. Flipping through my old social media feeds, I came across this photo from a basketball game. Looking back carefully, I realize that perhaps half of the people pictured have already taken different career paths. Yet when I chat with some former colleagues now and then, we all tend to fondly reminisce about those wonderful days at Zhengda. After moving on to other workplaces, we often draw upon—and adapt and refine—the various development mechanisms and regulations we experienced at Zhengda. I firmly believe that these experiences are closely tied to Zhengda’s continuous innovation and its ongoing process of accumulation and refinement. As everyone often says: “Those who leave aren’t necessarily bad; those who stay aren’t necessarily the best—but those who stay are more likely to be the right fit.”
Serve as the new product manager
I still remember repeatedly instilling brand awareness in clients and repeatedly inviting them to meals to build relationships. It’s precisely because of these experiences that, in subsequent developments, I’ve gained better insights and valuable lessons for promoting new teams and other new products.
II. My sash grows looser yet I never regret it—willing to waste away for her—establishing the Zhongshan Office and the Sensor Division.
“Those who aspire to achieve great undertakings and profound knowledge do not attain them easily or casually. They must remain steadfast and unwavering, sparing no effort—working day and night, tirelessly pursuing their goals with single-minded devotion—until they’ve grown thin and their belts have become loose, yet never regretting a single moment.” In August 2017, my third year with the company, I clearly recall the exact date when the Zhongshan Office of Zhengyi was established. From selecting the office location and leasing the office space to choosing and arranging all the decorative posters and artwork, I personally handled every detail from start to finish. Looking back at those old photos now, it feels just like watching my own biological son take his first steps into the world—everything is so warm and familiar.

At the time, the very first major test for the Zhongshan office was the Siemens promotion event held in December in the Zhongshan region. For us, who at that point had only a scattered handful of customers, successfully inviting 30 to 40 customers to attend the promotion event within just over two months was undoubtedly an enormous challenge. Yet in the end, we not only met but exceeded our goal! The venue, originally projected to accommodate just over 30 people, ended up with more than 50 seats filled. From the content of the promotion itself to the enthusiastic response and positive atmosphere among the attendees, the event received unanimous praise from both Siemens and our clients. Of course, this success wasn't solely down to the team's hard work—it also relied heavily on the support and cooperation of many colleagues across the company. In particular during that period, General Manager Hu and De Yi frequently traveled to Zhongshan, visiting clients together and jointly discussing strategies and solutions. Often, by the time they arrived at the office, it was already late at night. But looking back now, I truly cherish those days.

Also in 2019, the company assigned me a new responsibility—leading the sensor division. Although I had previously been in charge of launching new products, this time I had to go through the process of relearning the products and gaining a deeper understanding of the market once again. Moreover, I was once again faced with building a team and developing its members—just as the Zhongshan office did when it was first established, the sensor division also went through periods of personnel turnover and various challenges at its inception. Anyone who has led a team before will understand exactly what it takes: devoting careful attention to nurturing team members, having regular heart-to-heart talks, collaborating closely with clients, providing support in day-to-day tasks—all while essentially playing both the role of father and mother. But precisely because of all this dedicated care and support, team members were able to grow and develop, fostering a strong sense of trust within the team and creating a positive, harmonious working atmosphere.
III. After searching for him countless times amidst the crowd, I suddenly turned my head—and there he was, standing quietly in the dimly lit corner—years of friendship.
Once upon a time, I used to feel thrilled and delighted just being able to charge ahead and secure orders. But now, what makes me even happier is seeing my team members grow—watching them win new clients and secure fresh orders, and witnessing everyone consistently shine in one competition after another. I firmly believe that only when everyone grows and experiences the joy of success can our team keep expanding and thriving, and only then will each of us feel increasingly fulfilled and happy. And I’ll keep striving relentlessly toward this very goal!
